LittleBigPlanet 2 Update

LittleBigPlanet 2 is due to be updated this week which will include some tweaks to a number of community features in order to reduce negativity and encourage collaboration.

Here is the full list of changes:

Dive-In
The Dive-In feature has now been moved to the top of the Community menu, and has been vastly rewired and improved to help players easily find some new Sackfolk to play with during their adventures

Boo-Be-Gone

To help encourage creativity, we have removed the Boos from the Level Rating System. You can still Yay a level to say that you really liked it, but we found that the Boo ratings were disheartening at best, and could be used to cause grief amongst the community. If you happen to find something you don’t like because it’s rude or mean or just plain offensive, then hit the Select Button and use the Good Grief System to report it to our moderation team.

Comments & Reviews

If you have just played a level and wish to provide the creator with some helpful feedback, then you can still use the level’s comments section or perhaps leave a nice and informative review for the entire community to read. If you’re a busy creator though and would like to take a break from the reviews and comments on your level, you can now choose to disable reviews and/or comments on your profile and levels via the Settings Page on LBP.me. You won’t lose anything though, it will just block people from seeing them, or adding more, until you re-enable it again.

True Blue (aka) JB2 Issues Warning About Clones!

True Blue have issued another warning about the cheap clones of the dongles saying that it is just a cheap clone, and you will NOT be able to play any of the newer games that are being released.

Here is the statement:

It has come to our attention that some unscrupulous parties in China are now circulating fake True Blue devices. The devices look very similar to the real True Blue devices externally, but inside there is a cheap clone PCB which does not function with the True Blue CFW V2 or any dongle firmware above v2.3. As a result this device will not work with any of the latest EBOOT patches which require higher True Blue firmwares - this includes ALL EBOOT patches released since the beginning of the year.
Furthermore, the hardware platform on which this clone is based appears to be almost identical to the JB2USB clone which surfaced a while back. In light of this it is likely that channels which distribute the clone JB2USB are also distributing these True Blue clones, so beware of shops selling JB2USB who also stock True Blue, because they may sell you a fake.

In order to identify the fakes, please check exhibits A and B in the image below. A is an example of the original True Blue circuit board, while B is an example of the fake.

removinIn the fake (B) we can see that:

1. It is not based on the secure Actel FPGA, rather it uses an
inferior chip on which the manufacturer markings have been removed
2. Does not use a crystal oscillator
3. Is glued inside the plastic inner case
4. PCB size is obviously different
5. PCB is green

As the fake dongles do not support any True Blue firmware past v2.3, they can be trivially identified by simply attempting to update the dongle to the latest official True Blue firmware. If the update is unable to complete, then it is highly likely you have a fake. Alternatively, the fake can be identified by
removing the PCB from the metal case and comparing yours to the image attached.

RAP2RIF file converter

Flatz has released an application to convert .RAP to .RIF files.
With this new app, for developmental purposes, you can convert your .RAP files to .RIF files to use on reActPSN files.

Developer notes:

Following up on the previous ReActPSN v2.20 release, I have recently created a small PS3 RAP2RIF converter application for converting .RAP files from ReActPSN to .RIF file format.

It is based on a my own research.

Place it to the ps3tools directory along with other tools and then place your idps and act.dat files to appropriate folders.

This tool will generate .rif file that you should copy to your exdata/ folder. Then you can unself a corresponding NPDRM file.

Have fun.

PSN to be renamed to Sony Entertainment Network (SEN)

Apparently, the PlayStation Network will be renamed next week. The PSN will now be known as Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) on February 8th.

Here is the email that people have been receiving:

On February 8, 2012, your “PlayStation®Network account” will be renamed a “Sony Entertainment Network account” or a “SEN account” in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation®3 system software and PlayStation®Vita system software updates. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system at this time.)

For general purposes, this account change is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them. In accordance with this transition, some necessary naming changes will be made to the TOS and Privacy Policy.

This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with “Sony Entertainment Network.” This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and support during this transition.

Sincerely,
The Sony Entertainment Network Team

True Blue (aka) JB2 - v2 CFW Released

The True Blue developers have released v2 of their 'custom firmware' that allows for more upgrades in the future, and official support for downgraded PS3 Consoles!

Here is what they had to say

We have released V2 of the True Blue PS3 custom firmware (CFW).
This release adds the "no check" patches in order to support hardware downgraded consoles.
We recommend that all True Blue users update their PS3 to this CFW as soon as possible, as support for V1 CFW will be depreciated with the upcoming True Blue dongle firmware update.

Once you have download the file, please confirm the validity of the PS3UPDAT.PUP file contained within the ZIP archive by matching with one of the following hashes:
