Resistance: Burning Skies launch trailer

Resistance: Burning Skies  is now available in the US (both retail and PSN), and will be launching in Europe this Friday, June 1st.

Read the official PS Blog post below:

The wait is over! Resistance: Burning Skies hits store shelves and PSN today, ushering in a new era of portable first-person shooters. Dual-analog control isn’t the only thing going for Resistance: Burning Skies though. In addition to the multiplayer features and weapon functionality we’ve introduced over the last few months, Resistance: Burning Skies brings a new hero into the war between man and the Chimera – and Tom Riley’s story is one you won’t want to miss. Take a peek at the debut of our Resistance: Burning Skies launch trailer!

This isn’t all we have to share with you today though. You’ll remember back in April when we talked about Resistance: Burning Skies’ multiplayer modes we mentioned that through “near,” Resistance: Burning Skies introduces a new social perk which rewards players with XP multipliers that you can carry into multiplayer battle. Today we’re going to shed a little more light on exactly what that means.

So, as you play through the multiplayer experience in Resistance: Burning Skies, there’s a chance that you will become “infected” with a form of the Chimera virus. Although being infected with the Chimera virus didn’t end too well for Nathan Hale, these particular strains of the Chimera virus actually give you a bonus to your in-game XP multiplier. That means that you can have double and in some cases up to triple XP for a limited amount of time to gain levels and to unlock upgrades more quickly.

Capcom Announces Lost Planet® 3, New October 2 Release Date for Resident Evil® 6, and PlayStation®3 System Cross-Platform Play for the PlayStation®Vita System Version of Street Fighter® X Tekken®
Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed new information and details on its previously announced game line-up for 2012 stemming from its annual media showcase event, Captivate, which took place in Rome last week. At the event, Capcom officially announced Lost Planet® 3 is in full development and scheduled for release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 ® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC in early 2013. In addition, it was announced that the Xbox 360 and PS3™ versions of Resident Evil® 6 will now be released globally on October 2, 2012, with the Windows PC version to follow. Finally, Capcom is pleased to confirm that its forthcoming PlayStation®Vita system title, Street Fighter® X Tekken®, will feature Cross-Platform Play with the PS3™.

The extreme and unpredictable conditions that characterized the Lost Planet® series return, harsher than ever before in Lost Planet 3. Players take on the role of Jim, a utility rig pilot who has left Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. Delivering a diverse range of gameplay, including third-person on-foot battles and intense first-person utility rig action, players will need to brave the uncharted terrain, hostile climate and threat of indigenous Akrid creatures. With a number of multiplayer modes and a compelling single player experience, Lost Planet 3 will delve deeper into the Lost Planet universe, uncovering hidden truths when it releases in early 2013.

Captivate represented the first opportunity for media to see the highly anticipated Resident Evil 6 in action, with the game's development team showcasing one of Leon S. Kennedy's missions. Full of tension, the action has Leon and partner Helena Harper searching for an escape route from the Ivy University campus, the site of the most recent bioterrorist outbreak and the zombies that now stalk its hallways and grounds.

Announced and showcased during Captivate was the Cross-Platform Play for the PS Vita system version of Street Fighter X Tekken which allows owners of the PS Vita system version to compete against owners of the PS3™ version anywhere in the world, via Wi-Fi or 3G. Other features confirmed for the PS Vita system version of Street Fighter X Tekken were the introduction of touch controls, local and Wi-Fi multiplayer plus Near functionality alongside all the content from the home console version.

For the first time since its announcement, Captivate attendees were able to play DmC Devil May Cry® and experience the fast-paced, stylish combat that is the signature of the series. In addition, the game's development team, including members from Capcom Japan and Ninja Theory, presented a brand new level of the game. In this area, set at a carnival near the pier where he lives, Dante faces off with a Hunter Demon that has tracked down the Son of Sparda.

PSN to be renamed to Sony Entertainment Network (SEN)

Apparently, the PlayStation Network will be renamed next week. The PSN will now be known as Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) on February 8th.

Here is the email that people have been receiving:

On February 8, 2012, your “PlayStation®Network account” will be renamed a “Sony Entertainment Network account” or a “SEN account” in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation®3 system software and PlayStation®Vita system software updates. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system at this time.)

For general purposes, this account change is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them. In accordance with this transition, some necessary naming changes will be made to the TOS and Privacy Policy.

This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with “Sony Entertainment Network.” This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and support during this transition.

Sincerely,
The Sony Entertainment Network Team

Doom running on the PS Vita

PSP Developer 'Wololo' has managed to get Doom running on the PS Vita and posted a video for all to see.

Below you can read his statement regarding his work on getting DOOM to run on the PS Vita and see the video of it working.

A year and a half ago when I got Doom for PSP to run on the PSP Go, website hackaday noticed it and said "[being able to run Doom is] a prerequisite for any cracked device". Some people try to run Linux on their hardware at all cost, I prefer Doom. Today I was able to tweak HBL a bit on the PS Vita to get Doom to run on it. Will I get hackaday's attention this time too? That's, hands down, the best fps available on the vita so far, check the video below!
We are aware that this hack will be easily patched by Sony, but we still plan to publicly release it some time soon after the US/EU release of the Vita (we still have to port HBL to the EU/US versions of the game but that shouldn't have any difficulty). I also know that some devs are already working on solutions to make it "easier" for people who would want to stay on a low firmware. I wouldn't be surprised to see unofficial patches to the CMA, to prevent it from connecting to the net.

Let me use the opportunity to remind that HBL is a collective work, it is open source (anybody with a PSVita, a PSP, and a game exploit in their possession could do what I'm doing here!), and I want to especially thank the major work of m0skit0 (the creator of HBL) and JJS (who brought it to the level it is today). I also want to remind pirates around us that HBL does not technically allow people to run backups, PSP or Vita. (My opinion on the subject does not matter, it is a technical limitation of the tool, and has nothing to do with ethics.)

Happy New Year

PS VITA Encryption Flaw

PSP Developer 'StreetSkaterFu' has announced that while playing around with his shiny new PS Vita he might have found a 'flaw' in their encryption system already!

Here is what he had to say:

Since I finally have access to a retail PS VITA, today I started with some basic tests.
After a complete freeze of the system within the first 5 minutes after unboxing (*always happens to new consoles 4 me rofl*), I went on and noticed that there is a problem with the VITA's encryption functions and was able to decrypt some test files directly via the system.
I will post updates as soon as I have news :)
