Temporary Workaround For iPhone 6s Battery Status Bug

Aside from new 3D Touch shortcuts, more Siri languages, better Apple Pay – Wallet interaction, and the adoption of a cool Night Shift mode for smart screen color adjustment in low-light conditions, iOS 9.3 should bring a fair share of your typical bug patches to the table as soon as it’s ready to move out of beta.

Of course, the ninth major version of Cupertino’s acclaimed operating system is far from unstable, especially after its .2 December maintenance update, but at least one vexing glitch will need to be thoroughly repaired before long.

For the time being, you can dodge it by restarting your iPhone, and ensuring your date and time are set to change automatically. That’s quite an odd workaround for an issue pertaining to battery life, or rather the erroneous displaying of energy consumption and juice left in the tank.

As acknowledged on Apple’s support website, changing the time on an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus manually or even undergoing an automatic adjustment while traveling can break the little battery percentage icon, which might get stuck at a certain misleading value as your cell is slowly depleted of power.

“Apple is aware of this issue and is investigating the cause and a solution.” concludes the official announcement, so most likely, the public, fully polished iOS 9.3 build will contain said universal “solution.”

iOS 9.2.1 Jailbreak Achieved

Luca Todesco  has tweeted that he has managed to achieve an iOS 9.2.1 Jailbreak on an iPhone 6 running on  iOS 9.2.1. However, the tweet is accompanied by Todesco’s not so reassuring promise that the jailbreak will not be released, at least for now.

However that does not mean that a working iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak will not be released as other teams are also known to be working independently on similar solutions and it’s not yet known if they are all using the same exploits as Todesco.

It is also possible that Luca Todesco could change his mind and release the jailbreak or pass along the information to another team that would be prepared to release it to the rest of us.

iPad 2 downgraded from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1

iH8sn0w the developer of Sn0wbreeze has uncovered a loophole in Apple's apticket system allowing him to downgrade his iPad 2 from 5.1 down to 5.0.1 and he said it works on all A5 devices.

I would expect you need the SHSH blobs from iOS 5.0.1 so be sure to save them if you can.

At present there is no word on a public release or ETA.

Absinthe A5 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2

The iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has been released after months of hard work by pod2g and the rest of the jailbreak community.

p0sixninja said "Windows version of Absinthe is coming as soon as Nikias gets home and rolls up the build"

The iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak is compatible with the following:

iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1
iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1
As previously noted, there will be three jailbreak tools released that are all capable of jailbreaking the iPhone 4S and iPad
2. They are as follows:

Absinthe
A traditional graphical user interface jailbreak tool. Read More.

Dev Team CLI
A command line inteface that’s great for troubleshooting.

RedSn0w

The Dev Team’s traditional graphical user inteferface used for jailbreaking. This will be released sometime later after the CLI.

A huge thanks is owed to pod2g, p0sixninja, MuscleNerd, planetbeing, Saurik, and no-doubt countless others.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untether to be released real soon

Looks like we will see an untethered jailbreak for the 4S and iPad2 within hours according to pod2g who updated his blog earlier today.

Here is what he said:

Hello dear readers,

I know the wait was long, too much long, but it's about to end! You'd be able to free your iPhone in some hours.

A tool named Absinthe and developped by the Chronic Dev Team will install the untether on your device. Also the iPhone Dev Team will release a CLI (command line) tool to help diagnose issues and repair things if it goes wrong.

This is a little scary I know, but the chance you break something is really small, since we made lots of tests to verify the process on different devices. But it is the first time we use the backup / restore functions of iTunes to install software, and there are maybe things we are not aware of.

As you already know, different security researchers put a lot of energy to work out the different issues we had to install the untether on new devices.

Thus, a unified PayPal account was opened so that everyone who worked on the A5 exploits will receive a fair split of your contributions. Here is the link : contribute
As usual, contributions are not needed but are appreciated by developpers. By the way, thank you very much again for everyone who already participated. This is real nice.

Here is the complete list of Absinthe supported devices :

  • iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
  • iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1

I'll update the blog when this is released."

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak update

Pod2g has shared some more information on the hopefully soon to be released iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak in a blog post.

Here is what he had to say in his blog

How could pod2g have an untethered 4S and dev teams still haven't released tools to achieve this at home?

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can't be released publicly.

It's the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn't distribute it.

So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

Why A4 version of Corona was easier to release?

Because a tethered jailbreak is a good way to install Corona!

Why don't you do a tethered jailbreak then?

A tethered jailbreak also relies on an exploitable vulnerability that we still haven't found yet!

pod2g, release this stuff quick, [your insult here], I've waited enough now.

If I could, I would!

SBStickyNotes iOS 5 Tweak

Fr0zen Sun has released his latest tweak SBStickyNotes to the growing number of jailbroken iOS 5 users thanks to pod2g, the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team.
SBStickyNotes works with the native iOS notes application to extend the functionality by adding a new option which pins the note to the Springboard.

SBStickyNotes is a nice example of how to overcome and handle a problem area elegantly. The tweak is available free of charge on the Big Boss Cydia repository and requires iOS 5 or higher.

Please note you need a jailbroken device to use this feature.

redsn0w 0.9.10b2 Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1

redsn0w 0.9.10b2 has been released

The b2 version of redsn0w includes the launchctl-related fix by @planetbeing as mentioned by @saurik. As usual, you can just re-run redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing 5.0.1 jailbreak (even a PwnageTool one), making sure to de-select “Install Cydia” if you do. Always be sure to do a controlled “slide to power off” shutdown of your device before running redsn0w.
Here are the redsn0w download links:

A4 5.0.1. untether released.

The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G

If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.

If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.

Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether.

As mentioned earlier, @pod2g has spent months working on all the exploits and tricks in this untether, and many of you may be wondering how you can send donations. Although the iPhone devteam itself doesn’t take donations, we thought it was appropriate to provide a link at the end of the redsn0w run for you to more easily donate directly to @pod2g if you wish (alternatively, you can go right here). There’s a link in the Cydia package for donating to the chronic devteam for the Cydia version of @pod2g’s untether.

@pod2g is now looking for a way to extend this to A5 devices. Because those devices cannot use geohot’s limera1n exploit to inject the untether, they require exploits above and beyond those used for this release. Keep following pod2g on twitter or his blog for any progress reports!

You can still download untether from cydia (if you're already tethered on 5.0.1). Search for "corona" in cydia or download it from here

UltraSn0w 1.2.5 Unlock Released For iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 Running iOS 5.0.1

The latest version of UltraSn0w is now available on Cydia, and it supports the latest publicly available iPhone firmware iOS 5.0.1.
You will still need an unlockable baseband to utilize ultrasn0w, but if you meet the requirements, it is now possible to unlock your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1

You will need a jailbroken device to utilize UltraSn0w 1.2.5. Your baseband must also meet the following requirements:
iPhone 4: baseband 01.59.00
iPhone 3G/3GS: basebands 04.26.08 05.11.07 05.12.01 05.13.04 and 06.15.00

This version of UltraSn0w doesn’t bring any new baseband compatibility to the table, and it only works with the iPhone 4 and 3G/3GS. No iPhone 4S support just yet, but there are rumblings that support could be coming for those devices in the future.
